On Aug 10, 2026, a 7.4-magnitude earthquake hit Colombia, with the epicenter in San José del Palmar, Chocó. It affected the communities where Alpha FC's "Un Sueño Que Construye Sueños" runs (approximately 171 children and their families), as well as communities served by other trusted organizations in Manizales and Quibdó. Powerful Children Colombia moved quickly to support locally led relief efforts.

Long-term continuity over one-off relief
Every dollar of emergency funding is also a chance to deepen a relationship. Where a community is ready, we seek a path from immediate relief to sustained support for partner-led initiatives aligned with PCC's arts, sports, and education mission, following the partner's priorities and timeline.
A long-time partner of PCC. Emergency funds have supported the 21 families most affected (approximately 90 people) in Taparcal and Málaga with groceries, blankets, pillows, and other essentials. PCC has also extended Phase 4 of Un Sueño Que Construye Sueños through the end of 2026 to focus on post-earthquake recovery, restoring routines, safe spaces, and emotional wellbeing through the program's existing athletic, mental health, and nutritional structure.
Cultura Viva works to strengthen community through art, culture, sport, and environmental initiatives, creating spaces of discovery and transformation for a population largely affected by violence, poverty, and displacement. Emergency funds have supported ollas comunitarias (community kitchens) and construction materials for damaged homes.
Espíritu Indomable
Quibdó, Chocó
Based in one of the regions hit hardest by the earthquake, and among the most difficult to reach given its remote geography and ongoing armed conflict, Espíritu Indomable empowers Afro-Colombian and Indigenous communities through sports, education, health, and food security. Initial emergency funds covered food, construction materials, and other essentials. As part of recovery, the foundation is rebuilding the community's Tejido Social y Bienestar (Social Fabric & Wellbeing), working in 11 communities across Quibdó to implement four programs that reach at least 30 participants per community, with a focus on literature, community, peace, and other life skills.
Long-term commitment
Recovery from an earthquake of this scale doesn't happen in weeks. It's a long-term road, and PCC is committed to walking it alongside our partners for as long as these communities need us. We'll continue to communicate regularly with each partner to identify needs as they recover and rebuild.
